Hometalk at Versnit 2024
In the heart of South Africa’s philanthropic landscape, Atterbury Trust stands as a beacon of hope, delivering essential services to those in need across various communities. Our agency, Twisted Toast Digital, has had the privilege of partnering with this remarkable charity for a decade, witnessing first-hand the transformative impact of their work. As we reflect on our journey together, the annual Versnit event, held at the enchanting Rust en Vrede Estate in Stellenbosch, serves as a poignant reminder of the power of collective goodwill and the exceptional quality of South African ubuntu.
Atterbury Trust’s remarkable achievements are a testament to the generosity of its benefactors and the dedication of its team. From supporting 866 bursary students to achieving 683 degrees since 1994, the trust’s commitment to education is unwavering. Its MOI initiative has touched the lives of 82 high school learners, while the Triomf Clinic has provided healthcare to 6 219 patients. The Trust’s Terugploeg initiative has distributed over 605 tons of agricultural products, translating to more than 2.42 million meals for those in need. These Raakvatsyfers are not just numbers; they are stories of hope, resilience and community.
The Versnit event, now in its 14th year, is a highlight of Atterbury Trust’s calendar, embodying the spirit of South African excellence. Each year, friends gather in the lush garden of Rust en Vrede, their expectations sky-high for an unforgettable experience of music, fellowship and philanthropy. The 2024 Versnit was no exception, setting a new benchmark for what can only be described as a world-class gathering. The event showcased a harmonious blend of skill, talent and sheer joy, reminding us all of the importance of supporting Atterbury Trust’s invaluable work.
My personal experiences at Versnit have been deeply emotional and profoundly inspiring. Witnessing the collective effort of Louis van der Watt, Jean Engelbrecht, the main sponsor Lexus, and the entire Versnit team to create such an extraordinary event has been a source of immense pride. The performances by artists such as Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Elvis Blue, Karen Zoid, Claire Johnston and Ruhan du Toit have left an indelible mark, each bringing their unique magic to the stage and contributing to a truly memorable evening.
But Versnit is more than just a concert; it is a platform for change. The Friends of Versnit, through their generous contributions, enable Atterbury Trust to continue its vital work across various sectors. This year’s event not only celebrated the Trust’s achievements but also underscored the importance of giving back, of making a positive difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
As I look back on the 14th Versnit, I am filled with a sense of gratitude and hope. Gratitude for the opportunity to be part of something so meaningful and hope for the future of our beautiful country. Atterbury Trust’s work, supported by events such as Versnit, showcase the best of what South Africa has to offer: compassion, resilience and an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of those in need.
In closing, I invite you to join us in supporting Atterbury Trust by making a donation, big or small, your contribution can make a real difference. Together, we can continue to showcase South African excellence and extend a helping hand to those who need it most.
Here’s to many more years of partnership, philanthropy, and excellence. Together, we can make a difference. Together, we are stronger.
