The holidays are coming
By Kim Browne
We’ve reached that crazy, wonderful time of year when the countdown to the December holidays seems to rev up. There’s less than eight weeks to Xmas and everyone seems to need everything super-urgently. The problem is when everything is urgent, we can’t really prioritise anything and we blindly dash from one thing to another, juggling jobs and trying desperately not to drop any of them.
Coupled with this work mania is the stressful month of end-of-year school exams, as well as a variety of must-attend social engagements… Come mid-December we’ll definitely need a break to recover and recharge our batteries.
Earlier this week a very special grade 10 student spent a day job-shadowing us at The Toast. It was just an ordinary Monday for us, with regular client status meetings and design work that needed to shipped. Smilla was so absorbed, interested and enthusiastic about our business and really made the most of her time with us.
It was refreshing to share her wonder and excitement. It reminded me we should guard against becoming jaded and taking for granted what we are privileged to do every day. We can and do create magic for our clients. It’s never easy, but it is fulfilling and can be a lot of fun.
This month we are very happy to welcome Primedia Outdoor to our list of clients. But we are sad to be saying goodbye to Quinton Hoffmann who is re-locating to Cape Town with his wife. I think it is fair to say we will miss him as much as he will miss us – but who knows when our paths will cross again in future.
Positively, Sharlene Safi is back permanently at The Toast after her sojourn to Australia. We are very pleased to have her as part of our team at again. It seems as if we are a little like Hotel California, where you can “check out any time you like, but you can never leave”!
Let the countdown begin.
